Maudie Palmer AO
Portraits 2022 / 2023

These portraits explore presence, memory, and the passage of time, considering portraiture not as a fixed likeness but as a trace of lived experience. I first met Maudie Palmer in 2021 at Glendale, her home of more than forty years. Across several meetings and eventually a sitting, I sought to record the continuity between the woman before me and the life she had shaped through art, curatorship, and generosity. In the Good Room, Maudie appears repeatedly within the space she curated over decades, her presence embedded in its objects, light, and rhythms. The work seeks to honour Maudie’s profound contribution to Australian art while reflecting on photography’s ability to hold presence against inevitable absence.
